Sheffield grabs home wrestling win
One night after falling to Eisenhower, Sheffield’s wrestling team battled to a 36-22 win over visiting Cambridge Springs at Sheffield Middle/Senior High School.
“After a setback last night against Eisenhower, the kids wrestled well tonight,” said Sheffield coach Tom Holden. “Alex Marfink had the match of the night, avenging a loss to Brandon Hoover. After the match, he was pumped. Much improvement from two weeks ago at the Mercer tournament; Alex got dominated by Brandon. Huge turnaround both mentally and skill set.”
With Sheffield up just 12-6, Marfink trailed before pinning Hoover in 5:48 for an 18-6 Sheffield advantage.
Prior to Marfink’s match at 152 pounds, Hayden Holden started things off for the Wolverines with a dominating pin in 1:02 at 133 pounds.
From there, Sheffield outlasted the Blue Devils with four forfeit wins.
“We were a little short-handed,” said Coach Holden. “Zack Barnes broke his wrist at Fred Bell and Bryden Letendre was also out with an injury, but Cambridge Springs was in the same situation; they had a few kids out tonight, too.”
