KANE — Sheffield won five of six matches in the middle weights to hold off Kane 31-18 on Tuesday at Kane High School.

“Michael Knapp showed a lot of heart,” said Sheffield coach Tom Holden of the sophomore’s 2-1 decision at 139 pounds to put the Wolverines ahead 13-6.

“Rusty Winterstein got his first win tonight,” added Coach Holden, “also an expected win from Hayden Holden.”

Winterstein’s 19-9 major decision win started the ball rolling at 127 pounds, and Hayden Holden’s pin in 46 seconds at 133 was his 20th win of his junior season and 69th in three years. Knapp’s 1-point decision preceded three Sheffield forfeit victories to seal the match.

“We have one kid out sick and two on concussion protocol,” said Coach Holden. “Hopefully we’ll be back to full strength next week.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
