Sheffield’s Holden 5th in Grove City
GROVE CITY — Sheffield’s Hayden Holden bounced back from an early loss to finish fifth at 133 pounds on Saturday at the 42-team Fred Bell Tournament at Grove City High School.
In the consolation pigtails, Holden pinned Mercer’s Vlad Bennett in 44 seconds. He suffered a 12-5 decision loss to Union City’s Joshua Mitcham.
In the consolation rounds, he earned major decisions over Avonworth’s Michael Tabano and Franklin’s Trenton Rice. He later decisioned Kiski Area’s Jackson Pollick 14-8 majored McLane’s Ethan Snyder 13-2 and pinned Sharpsville’s Landon Hassel (3:55).
Holden was tech-falled by Meadville’s Caleb Anderson in the consolation semifinals before winning his fifth-place match by pinning Trinity’s Jacob Wright in the second period.
“He wrestled incredibly well this weekend against tough competition,” said Sheffield coach Tom Holden.
Holden is 26-7 on the season and now has 75 career victories as a junior.
Sheffield’s Bryden Letendre had two wins at 127 pounds at Fred Bell.
Sheffield next wrestles at Eisenhower on Wednesday and hosts Cambridge Springs on Thursday.
