WEST MIDDLESEX — The Eisenhower Knights took the long bus ride to West Middlesex to face the Big Reds and came away with a 65-42 nonregion win to improve their record to 13-2 on the season.

Eisenhower’s tandem of juniors Lainey Font and Clara Steinberg accounted for 51 of the Knights’ 65 points, including nine 3-pointers between them.

Steinberg finished with a triple-double line of 29 points, 13 steals and 10 rebounds to go along with seven assists.

Eisenhower led by five after the first quarter and by 10 at halftime.

Steinberg had 10 points in the third quarter as Eisenhower extended its lead to 47-29.

“The girls are playing excellent defense right now,” Eisenhower head coach D.J. Steinberg said. “They worked hard to get steals tonight and converted those into points. Clara and Lainey Font are both in a zone right now shooting the ball and when they are both hot it makes it very difficult for teams to defend us.”

It’s been nearly 20 years since the Eisenhower girls program has gotten off to such a good start, a fact not lost on Steinberg.

“We are gearing up for the back half of the season and another round of games against bigger 3A schools. We have a lot to improve on to get ready for the playoffs,” Steinberg said. “Our program hasn’t won a playoff game in 17 years, so we are taking it one game at a time.

Coach Steinberg added: “We have to continue working hard. Winning a playoff game is a major goal for this team. They remember what it was like just two years ago. I remember what it was like for those seniors when I took over the program. These girls are playing for those girls who battled just to keep the program alive. We owe it to all those girls to put our best effort on the court.”
