Steinberg, Font spark Ike girls to easy win
Combine for 47 points as Knights knock off Johnsonburg
RUSSELL — Clara Steinberg and Lainey Font combined for 47 points as Eisenhower improved to 8-1 on the season following a 66-24 girls basketball victory over Johnsonburg on Friday.
The Knights used a balanced offense to open up a 12-4 first-quarter lead as each starter got into the scoring column. After that, they never looked back, opening up a 20-point lead in the third quarter.
Steinberg led the way with 25 points, leaving her just four short of 1,000 points for her career. Font added 22.
The Lady Rams were led by Zoey Gunthaner with 8 points.
D.J. Steinberg on the win, “I thought the girls played a complete game and, hey, had great ball movement and worked hard on the boards,” Knights head coach D.J. Steinberg said. “Our shots weren’t falling in the first quarter, (but) the combination of Clara and Lainey presented a lot of problems for them. It was really a team win tonight.”
Eisenhower will have the weekend to rest with a big region game against Northwestern coming up.
“It’s all hands on deck for Monday,” Coach Steinberg said. “They are a very good team and will be a huge challenge for us. I’m looking forward to playing them and I know the girls are, too.”
Tip off for that game at Eisenhower is set for 7 p.m.
