After a 27-point loss at Cathedral Prep on Jan. 30, Warren’s girls basketball team has gone 2-1 with a renewed emphasis on defense. Unfortunately, 6-foot-2 senior center Addie Biel took over on Monday at Warren Area High School in Prep’s 46-31 win over the Lady Dragons for the season sweep.
The Appalachian State commit had 22 of her season-high 33 points in the second half on Monday as Prep turned a 10-point halftime lead into a Region 7 win.
“My gameplan has been the same from when we played them the first time,” said Warren coach Jenny Phillips. “Play good, hard-nosed defense, and make sure that we take care of the ball on offense. The girls were really looking forward to this game tonight and I knew that they would come out ready to go.
“Peyton Hagg played a great game against their big, Addie Beal,” added Phillips. “In the box score, she had 33, which was the majority of their points, but any time Peyton was in on her, she battled as best she could and I think she did a great job.”
Peyton Wotorson had 8 of her team-high 11 points in the second half for Warren (8-12 overall and 1-4 in Region 7). First-place Prep is 14-6 overall and 5-0 in region.
“I’m super proud of the effort the girls gave tonight,” said Phillips. “They never gave up and did some nice things on both ends of the floor. Each game we play, we keep getting better and better and as a coach, what more could you ask for? Thursday is senior night and I’m looking forward to celebrating my three incredible seniors that have given so much to this program over the past four years.”
