ERIE — It was an impressive feat when then Warren Area High School freshman Gracie Page finished sixth at last year’s District 10 2A Diving Championships.

It wasn’t nearly good enough for Page.

Now a sophomore, Page won the D10 3A Diving Championships on Friday at McDowell Intermediate High School.

“When I received sixth place last (year), I decided I wanted to be first this year,” said Page, who also won at the McDowell Invitational at this very pool last week. “I was definitely nervous every meet I competed in this year, but the support from my teammates and the skills I’ve carried over from my previous years in gymnastics have kept me motivated.”

Not only did Page win Friday with a personal-best 379.35 points in 11 dives, but she also hasn’t lost all season.

Page will advance to the PIAA 3A Championships in March at Bucknell University. While she’s the only one to advance, Warren sophomore teammate Kinzlea Chase finished second Friday with 362.15 points, and Page and Chase also finished 1-2 at the Feb. 14 invitational.

They are each other’s best competition.

“My goal for next year is to push myself harder and PR on a six-dive meet with a 240 (points) and 400 on an 11-dive meet with my teammate Kinzlea Chase,” said Page. “Kinzlea and I always practice better when we’re together and I believe we push each other each and every meet to compete our best.”

Chase also had a personal-best score in Friday’s 11-dive format.

“Since they started last year, both of these girls have been neck and neck with each other and shutting down all of the competition that’s been in their way,” said Coach Brandon Gregg. “Gracie and Kinzlea are bound for greatness into their junior and senior years, for sure. Tonight’s competition, the girls did time-tested true dives. They have a couple more in the tank with higher DD’s (degrees of difficulty). Once they’re refined, they’re really gonna put on a show for the spectators.

“Both girls are always the hardest workers in the room,” said Gregg.

McDowell teammates Josephine Gnibus and Sophia Tiscenko finished third and fourth, respectively, with 324.45 and 275.75 points.

Starting at $2.99/week.
