Dragons top Meadville, Mercyhurst Prep in pool

Warren’s swim team swept a double dual meet on Monday against Mercyhurst Prep and Meadville at the Warren YMCA.

“They killed it tonight,” said Warren coach Brandon Gregg. “Seventeen first-place finishes.”

Against Mercyhurst Prep, Warren’s boys team won 77-11 and the Lady Dragons 133-19. The Dragons also swept Meadville, 72-57 and 119-42, respectively.

For the Lady Dragons, Emma Peterson won the 200-meter freestyle and 400 free, Lucy Harrison the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Samantha Caudill the 200 individual medley, Gracie Page and Kinzlea Chase finished 1-2 in diving, and Violet Spiegel the 100 breaststroke.

Relay winners were the 200 medley relay team if Madelyn Walker, Caudill, Harrison, and Peterson, the 200 free relay of Adelaide Keeports, Spiegel, Jennifer Koppenhafer, and Katie Krogler, and 400 free relay (one second off a district-qualifying time) of Caudill, Harrison, Peterson, and Walker.

For Warren’s boys, Brody Alexander won the 200 free and 100 breaststroke, Chris Orth the 200 IM, Drake Niemetz the 50 free and 400 free, and Jacob Retterer the 100 free. Warren’s 200 medley relay team of Retterer, Alexander, Orth, and Niemetz also finished first.
