Erie Prep edges Youngsville boys 50-48
ERIE — Youngsville watched a double-digit lead dwindle away, allowing Erie Prep Academy to escape with a 50-48 victory Thursday in Erie.
The Eagles (12-7, 3-6 Region 3) trailed by four at halftime, but surged ahead in the second half building a lead that grew to as many as 10 points. From there, the duo of Xavior Wong and Hugo Rodriguez took over the game and the Yetis stormed back for their third victory of the season.
“We made some simple mistakes that lost us a 10-point lead,” said Youngsville coach Jesse Benton. “That allowed them to stay with us down the stretch and win in the final seconds.”
Rylan Benton scored a game-high 28 points for the Eagles. David Manning added 9 points with Rodney Rowland adding 5. Wong paced the Yetis with 21 points with Rodriguez adding 18 of his own.
The Eagles conclude the regular season today, returning to Erie to square off with Erie First Christian. From there, they will await this weekend’s District 10 announcement of playoff destinations.
