ERIE — The Eisenhower boys basketball team didn’t take long to heat up and seize control of its District 10 quarterfinal game Tuesday night, rolling to a convincing 72-36 victory over Wilmington at Mercyhurst University.
Austin Hanson led the way with 25 points, Casey Seymour scored 18 and Derek Guiher added 15 for the Knights (13-8), who led 16-9 after the first quarter and 36-19 at halftime.
“It feels amazing to get this playoff win,” said Hanson, who made all four of his free throws and drilled a pair of 3-pointers en route to his game-high effort. “We came out strong, played as a team and never let up. The energy from our fans was incredible and we’re excited to keep this run going. Now we have to refocus and get ready for Saegertown on Friday (at a site to be determined).”
Last night, Wilmington (10-12) scored the first basket of the game, but that was quickly answered by Guiher, who drilled a 3-pointer to give the Knights a lead they never relinquished.
Eisenhower outscored the Greyhounds 23-7 in the third quarter and, with the mercy rule in use, Knights head coach Ryan Mangini went to his bench for the remainder of the game.

“After a slow start, the guys rallied and extended the lead,” he said. “It’s always good to get a playoff win and move on. We need consistent intensity and focus moving forward in the postseason.”
Wilmington was led by Freddie Zehetner who finished with 17 points.
