The Eisenhower girls basketball team is 15-6 and awaits a call from District 10 officials this weekend to see if it has done enough to qualify for a spot in the playoffs, but they have one remaining home game and it is tonight against Region 3 opponent North East
While winning the game and improving their 6-6 regional record is important to the Knights, they have a bigger goal in mind.
“We are making our final regular-season game, a “pink-out” game in order to help a family in our program who is dealing with a cancer diagnosis,” said Eisenhower head coach D.J. Steinberg.
The Knights are using the game as a fundraiser to help the VanArsdale family, in particular Kacey, who has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. The family has two daughters in the Eisenhower program — Liv a fifth-grader and Lux, who is in the fourth grade.
“This is just a great family. Kacey and her husband, Justin, are both booster officers and do a ton to help out our program, so we thought doing this ‘pink-out’ game would help them defray some of the expenses they are having to deal with,” Steinberg added.
Tonight’s fundraiser will include basket raffles; a 50-50; 56 “pink-out” T-shirts, donated by Young Custom Creations LLC, which will be sold for $20 each.
“We did this last year for a family in need and we were able to raise over $2,000 and we are hoping to exceed that amount for this incredible family,” Steinberg said.
The Knights hope to fill the stands for the VanArsdale family. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
