Warren’s boys basketball team clinched at least a share of the Region 5 title Tuesday with a 75-60 win over Conneaut at Warren Area High School.
It wasn’t easy.
After taking a 16-8 lead in the first quarter, the Dragons were outscored 28-18 by Conneaut for a two-point deficit, 36-34, at halftime.
Shakir Jordan had 24 first-half points for Conneaut, but that didn’t tell the whole story.
“Thirteen turnovers in the first half, bad team defense, and questionable shot selection is what folks witnessed tonight,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “The challenge flag came out at halftime for my senior point guard and he stepped it up in the third.”

Leihden Wotorson hit two of Warren’s six 3-pointers in the third quarter as Warren took back the lead, 53-50.
Chase Sitler would score 8 of his team-high 26 points in the fourth quarter — a 22-10 Dragons’ fourth that saw five players score points. Sitler and Wotorson combined for six free throws when Conneaut was forced to foul, Logan Crissey had 5 points in the quarter, Lucas Thrift 4, and Allen Eaton added a 3-pointer.
Wotorson finished with 15 points, Thrift 13, Eaton 11 off the bench and Crissey 10, as only five Dragons scored in the game, but the Dragons combined for 12 threes.
Conneaut’s Jordan would cool off in the second half, if you call 9 points cooling off. He finished with a game-high 33. Teammate Alex O’Grady added 10 points in the loss.
Warren improves to 16-4 overall after a 1-2 start to the season. The Dragons are 12-1 in Region 5 with a home game against Corry on Friday to end the regular season. Friday’s game is also Senior Night for Sitler, Wotorson, Grady Corey and David Huffman.
Conneaut falls to 9-12 overall and 5-8 in the region.
