Warren Dolphins YMCA swim team celebrates record-breaking season
The Warren Dolphins YMCA Swim Team had an outstanding season, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from the senior girls during a meet against Jamestown on Jan. 4.
The relay team, consisting of Madeline Walker, Violet Spiegel, Katie Krogler, and Sam Caudill, set a new team record with a time of 4:51.80. Their achievement showcases the dedication and hard work of these talented athletes.
The team’s final home meet of the season on Feb. 1 against the Corry Otters YMCA was another triumph, with the senior girls qualifying two relays for the YMCA Districts meet. The 15-21 200 freestyle relay clocked in at 2:08.47, while the 15-21 200 medley relay secured its spot with a time of 2:22.54.
Coach Danielle Cook expressed her excitement, stating, “It has been a lot of fun having leadership from our high school girls, who rejoined the team this year.”
In addition to the relay record against Jamestown, several other team records were broken this season:
Melissa – 100 individual medley (1:19.60)
Prep Girls 400 freestyle relay (6:52.64) – C. Peterson, G. Peterson, T. Zapel, T. Piaschyk
Hayden Myers – 200 breaststroke (3:27.06) & 100 individual medley (1:30.88)

Levi Peterson – 1,000 freestyle (13:14.72)
Junior Boys 400 freestyle relay (5:34.52) – D. Gospodinov, L. Peterson, I. Zapel, T. Retterer
Emma Peterson – 800 freestyle (10:59.71) & 1,500 freestyle (20:50.21)
A number of Dolphins swimmers have also qualified for the YMCA District Championships in Geneva, Ohio, from March 7-9:
Lucas Bosko – 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke
Isaac Stanton – 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke
Hayden Myers – 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 50 backstroke
Melissa – 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 100 individual medley
Wesley Richard – 50 freestyle
Trey Retterer – 100 backstroke
Violet Spiegel – 100 breaststroke
Madeline Walker – 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke
Katie Krogler – 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle

Cook is thrilled with the team’s progress.
“It has been a fantastic season for the Dolphins,” she said. “It was fun to have our high school swimmers back on the team. The team is young, with a lot of first-year swimmers who have made significant improvements all year long. We have a lot of hard-working kids and fantastic families who have made it a successful season.”
