ERIE — Warren’s swim teams are trying to get their last potential district qualifiers as the regular season winds down. After sweeping Mercyhurst Prep on Thursday, Warren’s boys downed the Royals 74-32 and the Lady Dragons won 127-12 at Erie High on Monday.

“The Warren team came out in force tonight with a first-place finish in almost every event,” said Warren coach Brandon Gregg. “The boys 400-yard free relay qualified for districts while the ladies had PRs all night.”

Warren’s 400-yard freestyle relay of Jacob Retterer, Chris Orth, Drake Niemetz and Brody Alexander qualified for the District 10 2A Championships with a winning time of 3:45.68.

“These same four boys have qualified in all three relays and collectively every single individual event, excluding the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle,” said Gregg.

Other winners for Warren’s boys included the 200-yard medley relay of Retterer, Drake Niemetz, Kaleb Niemetz and Aaron Gausman, and the 200-yard freestyle relay of Orth, Gausman, Brody Alexander and Kaleb Niemetz. Individual winners were Orth (200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly), Drake Niemetz (50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle) and Gausman (100-yard backstroke).

For the Lady Dragons, winners were Samantha Caudill (200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke), Lucy Harrison (50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly), Madeline Walker (100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke), Katie Krogler (200-yard freestyle) and Emma Peterson (500-yard freestyle). The relay winners were Walker, Caudill, Harrison and Peterson in the 200-yard medley relay; Walker, Violet Spiegel, Ella Porier and Krogler in the 200-yard freestyle relay; and Krogler, Harrison, Peterson and Caudill in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Personal-best times on Monday included: Krogler in the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.59) and 500-yard freestyle (6:04.26); Alicia Collins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:53.26) and 500-yard freestyle (7:47.67); Peterson in the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.13); Walker in the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.08) and 100-yard backstroke (1:07.80); Brady Caudill in the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.32); and Porier in the 50-yard freestyle (39.0). For the boys, Alexander had a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.72) and 200-yard freestyle (2:17.19), and Gausman in the 200-yard freestyle (2:52.34).

“It was a great meet, and this team is ready to crush the postseason,” said Gregg. “We are home Thursday against Meadville, and the boys are looking for revenge after a very narrow loss early in the season. Then, next Monday, we are home against Mercyhurst (Prep).”
