CORRY — Youngsville’s Little Eagles and junior high Eagles wrestlers headed to the Tim Edwards Memorial Tournament over the weekend. The tournament is held in Corry every year and is named for former Corry kids wrestling coach Tim Edwards.

The tournament regularly attracts wrestlers from the tri-state area. Notable attendees over the years have included four-time NCAA champions Yianni Diakomihalis and Carter Starocci, and two-time Division I All-American Lou DePrez.

The tournament was split into two sessions. The morning session featured action from the 8U and 12U boys and the 15U girls division.

Sam Hagg led the way for the 8U wrestlers, finishing in second place in the 120-pound division.

Johnathan Sullivan paced the 12U wrestlers with a second-place finish as he had another thrilling finals match with rival Isaac Beebe of Maplewood.

Brian Riel finished in third place in the 145-151-pound division.

Khloe Rulander was the lone Eagle competing in the 15U girls division. Rulander fought hard throughout the day against much more experienced competitors and came away with a fourth-place finish.

Among the highlights from the morning session, Hagg had a big come-from-behind pin over Keegan Shaffer of Corry in his first match and the finals match between Sullivan and Beebe came down to a reversal scored by Beebe with less than 5 seconds remaining to edge Sullivan 6-4.

In the afternoon session, the action came from the 6U, 10U and 15U boys divisions as well as the 8U, 10U and 12U girls divisions.

Westin Cope led the 6U wrestlers with a second place finish in the 80-86-pound weight class. Cope posted two falls before losing to Corry’s Brayden Smith in his final match.

Jake Battko led the 15U wrestlers with a second-place finish in the 112-117-pound division. Battko won by 6-5 decision over Jamestown’s Zach Thompson and fall over Meadville’s Caiden Hall to make the finals. Opposite Battko in the finals was returning PJW state champion Amari Jenkins. Battko scored the first takedown, but it was all Jenkins after that as he secured the fall for the victory.

Ryker Chase added a second-place finish for the Eagles, falling in the finals to Isaac Beebe of Maplewood.

Tucker Sanford was third as he pinned Warren’s Noah Pape in the opening match before falling to Cathedral Prep’s Mario Panighetti and Titusville’s Charlie Ackerman.

Brayden Patch was fourth for the Eagles in the 124-pound weight class. Patch’s outing was highlighted by a 7-3 win over Port Allegany’s Connor Mantz that secured him a podium finish.

In girls action, Miya Rotondelli, Kinsley Dean and Mack Hodak all placed second in their respective divisions and weight classes.

Rotondelli posted an exciting 13-11 win over Union City’s Zoey Elias to highlight her day.

Dean went 2-1 on the day, posting a 6-0 win over Union City’s Blakelynn Eastman and won 8-7 over Titusville’s Jordan Greathouse. The match with Greathouse was a thrilling one as Dean picked up the match winning points as time expired.

Hodak matched up with Redbank Valley’s Kynlee Boozee in the 66-74-pound weight class. In the first match, Hodak dropped a 10-3 decision. In the second match, Boozee scored the fall in 1:46.
