Darr belts HR, but Ike girls fall

OIL CITY — Eisenhower’s Abbie Darr had a two-run home run, but it was not enough as the Lady Knights dropped an 8-3 softball decision to Oil City on Friday.

For the second game in two days, Eisenhower jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when an Oiler wild pitch brought in a run. Oil City tied the game in the bottom of the inning and opened up a 2-1 lead at the end of two innings.

Darr stepped to the plate with one runner on in the top of the third and gave Eisenhower a 3-2 advantage thanks to her home run. The lead was short lived as Oil City scored two runs in the third to retake the lead 4-3.

The Oilers would hold Eisenhower scoreless over the final four innings and extend their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Samantha Childs started and took the loss for Eisenhower. The right-hander gave up 13 hits and seven runs, striking out five while walking three.

Eisenhower was led by Darr with two hits, including the home run, and teammate Tracey Jakubczak was perfect at the plate, going 4-4.

“We are right there,” Lady Knights head coach Rich Pascuzzi said. “We just have to string our hits together and learn to finish strong. These girls have a great attitude and really support each other. We have tremendous potential. We just have to find the right mix.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
