Ike baseball, softball suffer losses in openers

WEST MIDDLESEX — It was a rough start for both the Eisenhower baseball and softball teams as they both dropped their season openers.

On Wednesday, the baseball team lost 13-3 to the Big Reds. Eisenhower started Wyatt Neal on the mound and he lasted two innings before giving way to Caleb Jakubczak.

“I am proud of the effort the boys gave,” Knights head coach Alan Jackson said. “We are a very young team and we are going to have to deal with some growing pains. We started to hit the ball after our first time through the lineup, but our errors in the field hurt us for sure. We’ll be OK. These guys are hungry to get better.”

On Thursday, the Lady Knights fell to the Big Reds in their season opener 12-1.

Eisenhower jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Alexis Pascuzzi drove in Abbie Darr for what would be Eisenhower’s only run in the game.

West Middlesex tied the game in its half of the first inning and used the momentum to score in every inning, highlighted by a seven-run fourth inning. Sophomore Abbie Darr led Eisenhower with two hits, including a double, and two stolen bases. Pascuzzi drove in the lone run.

Samantha Childs took the loss for Eisenhower. She gave up three hits and four runs over two innings. The junior right-hander had two strikeouts and walked five.

“We played well for the first game,” Eisenhower head coach Rich Pascuzzi said. “We are a very young team that has talent and a lot of energy. We hit the ball and were aggressive on the basepaths. We had some nice plays in the field and didn’t have an error. We just need to put it all together and we’ll be OK.”

The Lady Knights are back in action today, weather permitting, when they travel to Oil City.

Starting at $2.99/week.
