Lady Dragons open with 14-1 victory
ST. MARYS — Senior Alana Stuart took care of business in the pitching circle, adding an early home run at the plate, in the Warren girls softball team’s 14-1 season-opening win on Friday at Elk County Catholic.
Stuart’s homer was one of the Dragons’ seven hits over the first two innings. Emily Davidson had two doubles as the Dragons led 8-1 after two.
“Hitting is going to be key to us winning games and it was nice to see solid hard hits tonight,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “Alana threw great, mixing it up all across the zone, getting swings and misses. It was a good start to the season.”
Stuart threw all six innings, striking out 15 while allowing just three hits, one walk, and one unearned run in the first inning.
Leadoff hitter Malysia Sorensen would turn Warren’s lead into a rout with a two-run home run in a five-run top of the sixth inning.
Sorenson’s opposite-field blast was one of her three hits, including a triple, and three runs scored. Second-place hitter Emma Gray also had three hits and three runs. Stuart, Davidson, and Peyton Hagg added two hits each in Warren’s 15-hit attack.
