Beers shines for Eagles at Harbor Creek Invitational

HARBORCREEK — Youngsville’s Ethan Beers made a run at the meet record in winning the boys triple jump at the 19th Annual Harbor Creek Invitational held Saturday at Harbor Creek High School.

Beers’ winning jump measured in at 44 feet, seven and one-half inches — nearly three feet longer than runner-up Fabian Sherk of Bradford. The jump was only a foot short of the meet record set by Sharon’s Johnathon Jacoway in 2013.

The triple jump win wasn’t Beers’ only dynamic performance of the weekend. The junior finished second in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, two and one-half inches as well as fourth in the high jump clearing five feet, 10 inches.

Teammate Chase Myers had a pair of top five finishes in the boys’ hurdles events. Myers finished third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.27 seconds as well as fifth in the 110 hurdles with a run of 16.95 seconds. Also competing for the Eagles boys on Saturday were Ollie Boozer (11th high jump, 18th triple jump, 25th long jump) and Rodney Rowland (32nd long jump, 40th 100).

For the Lady Eagles track & field team, senior Cassidy Britton delivered the highest place finish of the weekend with a pair of third-place finishes. Britton was third in the 1600 with a run of 5:51.04 while also placing third in the 3200 with a time of 12:50.07.

Youngsville’s Kinzlea Chase added a top-ten finish with an eighth in the 300 hurdles (57.4 seconds) as well as a 13th in the 100 hurdles while Sarah Blauser was 13th in the shot put and 18th in the discus.

Youngsville is next scheduled to compete at Eisenhower on Tuesday.
