Childs sends Knights to first victory
KANE — Behind a big day from Samantha Childs, Eisenhower claimed its first softball win of the season, downing Kane 18-5 on Wednesday.
The junior drilled an RBI single in the first inning, a three-run triple in the second inning and a two-run triple in the third inning
Although the Knights trailed 3-2 after the first inning, they wasted little time getting the lead back in the top of the second when Childs belted her three-run triple and Alexis Pascuzzi added an RBI single to make the score 6-3.
An inning later, Eisenhower pushed across five runs, courtesy of Childs’ two-run triple, Pascuzzi RBI single and Morgan Zaffino’s bases-loaded walk and then the visitors put the game away with seven runs in the fourth inning. Pascuzzi smacked a three-run single, Zaffino drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Alexis Steck singled in another run to highlight the rally.
Childs earned the win for Eisenhower, scattering eight hits and allowing only one earned run over five innings. She struck out nine and allowed two walks.
Pascuzzi and Childs led the offense with three hits apiece and combined for nine RBIs. Teammates Tracey Jakubczak, Kendra Danielson and Stec each had two hits apiece for the Knights (1-4), who stole 13 bases.
“The girls have been close in each of our games,” Eisenhower head coach Rich Pascuzzi said. “It was great to see them focused and finish strong. We really hit the ball well all the way through our order and Sam pitched a nice game. Hopefully we can build off of this one.”
The Knights are back in action today when they travel to Iroqouis for a 4 p.m. game.
