YOUNGSVILLE — Youngsville sent 15 batters to the plate in the opening inning and cruised to a 16-1 victory over North Clarion in game one of a doubleheader Friday at Davis Street Field in Youngsville.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed after heavy rain persisted prior to the first pitch of the second contest.

The Eagles (4-4) first five batters of the first game reached base and scored. Cole Johnson started the scoring with an RBI single and the inning also included a two-run single from David Manning, RBI singles from Talon Mesel and Aaden Patch, an RBI groundout from Josh Pikna and an RBI hit by pitch from James Johnson. Manning and Mesel also scored runs on passed balls as the Eagles led 9-0 after an inning.

“It’s exciting as a coach seeing the guys continue to make improvements every day,” said Youngsville coach Eddie Dorunda. “Especially the mental part of the game — running the bases, putting pressure on teams and giving everything they have.

“Today was a great opportunity to get everyone some playing time and continue to work on our approach at the plate. I’m very proud of the boys and we just have to keep things rolling into next week.”

After jumping out to the early lead, Youngsville added three more runs in the second as Dylan DePasquale brought home Bryce Spinks, Manning hit a sacrifice fly to plate another run and Cole Johnson ripped an RBI double to make it 12-0 after two.

North Clarion got its only run of the game on a two-out single in the top of the third, but Youngsville needed only one more at-bat to end the game early.

Riley Lauger started the inning by getting hit by a pitch, Pikna doubled and Spinks singled to load the bases with nobody out. Patch was hit by a pitch during the next at bat to bring home a run and James Johnson had a two-out double to make it 15-1.

An RBI groundout from Cole Johnson then plated Patch and the game ended via the mercy rule.

James Johnson, Manning, Cole Johnson and Spinks all had two hits for the winners. James Johnson and Spinks scored a game-high three runs and James Johnson and Manning each drove home three runs. Lauger scored the first run of his varsity career and Patch had his first varsity hit.

On the mound, James Johnson went all three innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven.

The Eagles return to action Monday when they welcome Seneca to Davis Street Field in Youngsville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
