Eagles, Dragons, Knights fall

YOUNGSVILLE — Youngsville had its chances, but a five-run bottom of the sixth ultimately doomed its effort during a 6-1 loss to Iroquois on Tuesday.

The Eagles were able to load the bases in two of the opening three innings but only plated one run as the game stayed tied at 1-1 until the five-run Iroquois explosion in the sixth.

Youngsville actually held the first lead of the game, scoring a run in the top of the third to start the scoring. Hailey Gray was hit by a pitch and stole second before back-to-back walks from Ireland Abraham and Kamden Swearingen loaded the bases. Freshman Peytynn Kirby was then hit by a pitch to drive home Gray and make it 1-0.

The Braves tied the game in the fourth, but some nifty defensive work from the Eagles made sure things stayed tied. Kirby fielded a ball in right and fired to second baseman Haley Kent who completed the relay throw to catcher Alyssa Gentz to gun down the go-ahead run at the plate.

According to Youngsville coach Neal Kent, Youngsville played perhaps its best defensive game of the season. However, the Eagles were hampered offensively by 11 strikeouts, and they left the bases loaded in the first and third innings.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they host a make-up game with Rocky Grove at 4 p.m.

Titusville storms back to beat Warren softball

TITUSVILLE DEFEATS WARREN

TITUSVILLE — Warren’s softball team built a 6-0 lead, but Titusville stormed back for a 21-8 six-inning victory on Tuesday.

Peyton Gricks’ home run walked it off for the Rockets (4-4 overall and 2-2 in Region 6).

Alana Stuart left the pitching circle with two on and a 6-0 lead in the third inning to have her ankle injury taped, and she returned with Warren clinging to a 6-5 lead. After leaving the game for good, Titusville scored 16 runs in the final two innings for the 10-run rule victory.

Stuart did manage to blast two home runs, including a grand slam, in her first two at bats. She finished 4-for-4, adding a single and double. Malysia Sorensen added two hits for Warren (6-3, 3-3), and Stuart and Emma Gray scored three runs apiece in the loss.

UNION CITY DOWNS KNIGHTS

The second inning saw the Bears collect eight runs on seven hits to take a commanding 11-0 lead after two innings. The Knights, who were outhit 13-2, surrendered five more runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.
