Eagles softball falls to Union City

UNION CITY — Youngsville got off to a fast start, but ultimately fell to Union City 18-3 in softball action Tuesday.

Coming off their first win of the season, the Eagles kept things rolling with a three-run opening inning. Alyssa Gentz and Marli Rectenwald led off the game with singles and moved to second and third on a sacrifice from Hailey Gray.

That brought Ireland Abraham to the plate and the senior crushed a three-run homer over the right-center field fence to put the Eagles on top, 3-0.

Unfortunately for Youngsville, Union City’s offense came to play as well, and the Bears scored seven times in the first and eight times in the second before ending the game in the fourth.

Gentz had two of Youngsville’s six hits, with Peytynn Kirby adding a double for the Eagles.

Youngsville returns to action today when it hosts Iroquois at 4 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
