Knights basketball programs receive postseason honors

CLARA STEINBERG

The Eisenhower girls basketball team had a very successful 17-9 season, highlighted by its first playoff win and advancing into the PIAA state playoffs for the first time in 16 years.

The Knights were a team led by their junior class, often starting four in their lineup, and two of them — Clara Steinberg and Lainey Font — were recognized for All-Region honors.

Steinberg led Eisenhower and finished second in scoring in all of District 10, averaging 22.5 points per game. She led all of District 10 in 3-point shooting and finished third in the state, draining 75 treys. She also averaged 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, she also chipped in 3.8 steals and had 1.3 blocks per game, and was also selected to the District 10 all-star team.

Font averaged 14.1 points, 2.1 assists and 3.8 steals per game. She connected on 62 3-pointers, which was third in District 10.

Both players will be chasing milestones next year. Font will be chasing the 1,000-point career point mark; she currently sits at 821 points. Steinberg joined the 1,000-point club this season and will be looking to break Eisenhower’s career scoring mark of 1,822 held by Elisha Jones. Steinberg needs 464 points to pass Jones.
