Jakubczak leads way at the plate and on the mound vs. Iroquois

The Eisenhower baseball team earned its first win of the season, downing Iroquois 10-3 in a region contest at Werner Park on Monday.

Junior Caleb Jakubczak led the Knights with his right arm and his bat. He was 3-for-3 at the plate with a single, double and a triple and he had four RBIs. On the mound, the right-hander went six innings, gave up six hits, struck out five,, walked two and gave up two runs, both earned.

Eisenhower jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Jakubczak double and an Alex Knowles’ fielder’s choice. The Knights added another run in the third inning when senior Griffin Williams stole home to increase their lead to 3-0.

Jakubczack drove in two more runs when he tripled to deep left field in the fourth inning and Eisenhower never looked back.

Williams came on in relief of Jakubczak to pitch the seventh inning, surrendering one hit and recording two strikeouts.

Wyatt Neal and Williams each had a pair of hits for the Knights and Jarius Casey added a pair of RBIs.

“There were times we had five freshmen on the field today and they played with a lot of heart,” Eisenhower head coach Alan Jackson said. “The boys played with confidence today and finally found their rhythm playing as a team.”

The Knights are back in action today when they travel to Mercyhurst Prep for a 4 p.m. game.

ERIE — The Eisenhower girls softball team ran into hot-hitting Seneca on Monday and suffered a 15-0 setback.

Eisenhower found itself trailing 3-0 after back-to-back doubles by Seneca in the bottom of the first inning and the Bobcats breezed to the win.

The Knights were outhit 14-3 and committed four errors. Tracey Jakubczak led Eisenhower with two hits. Samantha Childs started in the circle and took the loss.

The Knights will be back in action when they entertain Union City at 4 p.m. today at Werner Park.
