Knights shine at Franklin Invitational
FRANKLIN — The Eisenhower track & field teams swept the 4×400-meter relay events in both the girls and boys competition during last weekend’s Franklin Invitational.
The girls team, consisting of Leah Morrison, Lainey Font, Laney Belcher and Emily Grosch, completed the event with a winning time of 4:33.92 while the boys team of Joe Mistretta, Joe Gigliotti, Easton Fitzgerald and Bryceton Wilkins qualified for districts with a winning run of 3:43.8.
Those relay victories weren’t the only highlights of the weekend for the Knights’ teams as Belcher added a victory in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:03.95. Teammate Rosalie Rondeau was also a four-time medal winner in Saturday’s competition, finishing third in the 200 (28.51), and fifth in the 100 (14.06), long jump (14 feet, 7 inches) and triple jump (31-7).
Marissa Gourley was a third-place finisher in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.09 seconds and Emily Grosch was third in the 800 (2:32) as well as being on the fourth-place 4×800 relay team alongside Font, Belcher and Izzy Grosch. Morrison rounded out Ike’s medal winners with a sixth-place finish in the 100.
In addition to the winning 4×400 team, the boys also got strong days from Mistretta and Gigliotti. Mistretta was the winner in the 800 with a run of 2:08.96 while Gigliotti was first in the 3,200 (10:35.96) and runner-up in the 1,600 (4:49.92).
Eisenhower is back in action today when it travels to Seneca for a region meet.
