Lindell breaks Warren record in 1,600 meters
If better competition pushes you, then the 90-team 60th Annual Butler Invitational at Butler High School on Friday was a good place for Warren track and field athletes to be.
“We had a great opportunity to compete against the best competition in Western PA,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “We had a great day with some nice weather for a change, which meant the kids could finally go after some great performances. The majority of the kids we took had season bests. We also had a few more district-qualifying standards met. One very awesome highlight is Sam Lindell breaking the Warren school record for the 1600. He’s been working hard for it and it’s great to see him lower that time.”
Lindell’s time of 4:28.97 in the 1600-meter run bested his previous record mark of earlier this season.
Indicative of the type of competition at Art Bernardi Stadium, Lindell finished 12th out of 114 finishers. North Allegheny’s Jack Bertram won in 4:11.76.
Lindell was also 22nd out of 82 in the 3200 (9:47.19), and Max Spiegel tied for 14th in the high jump (5-foot-10).
Warren’s other male competitors included Chase Sitler and Kahle Kuzminski (100-meter dash), Kuzminski and Austin Fiscus (200), Sitler and Fiscus (400), Quinn Norris (800), Cole Fitzgerald (3200), Adon Maier (110 hurdles), Scott Nichols (300 hurdles), Spiegel (long jump, triple jump), and Noah Bleech (javelin).
For the Lady Dragons, Lilly Newton tied for ninth in the high jump at 5-2 and Morgan Alexander was 18th in the 3200 at 11:34.11. Other female competitors included Lindsay Madigan and Madelyn Nosel (100), Nosel (200), Newton (400), Leona Hovan and Brynn Norris (800), Riley Evan and Emma Peterson (1600), Peterson (3200), Adison Cullers and Bella Campbell (300 hurdles), Madigan (long jump), Gracie Page (pole vault), Zoe Rodgers (discus), and Madigan and Grace Carr (javelin).

“We are very proud of how the kids did and how they were willing to step up and compete,” said Dustin.
