Meadville tops Warren 7-2 at Old Legion Field

Warren’s baseball team kept Meadville within sight on Friday, but couldn’t get the bats going this time in a 7-2 Region 6 loss at Old Legion Field.
“Once again, Carter (Cochran) did a great job on the mound for us,” said Warren coach John White, whose Dragons are 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the region. “He filled up the zone, did everything he needed to. Plain and simple, they hit the ball better than us. We need to do a better job with two strikes and put the ball in play. The past two games, we’ve done a much better job of that. This time, we didn’t.”
Meadville put up crooked numbers in the third, fourth and seventh innings and finished with 10 hits. Warren also committed four errors to help the Bulldogs’ cause.
Only two of Cochran’s seven runs allowed were earned.
He gave up nine hits and two walks over 6-1/3 innings, striking out eight.
“Defensively, we did a much better job,” said White. “The errors we had today were plays that our guys are making most of the time. Today we didn’t, but that’s not what killed us. The three physical pieces of the game have been there throughout our first three games. Each game, there’s always been a vital piece missing that’s kept us from being successful. Once those pieces fall into place, we’ll be right where we want to be. I’m not worried in the slightest.”
Warren trailed 7-0 when Felix Valencia had a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Eli Snyder had Warren’s only other hit.
Meadville’s Rocco Woodrow struck out 13 over 6-2/3 innings in the victory. Bradyn Miller’s homer made it 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
