Prep posts shutout tennis win over Dragons
LAKEWOOD, N.Y. — Warren’s boys tennis team lost its second match of the week in a 5-0 sweep at the hands of Cathedral Prep on Wednesday at the Lakewood Family YMCA.
At top singles, Gavin Ferretti defeated Adam Strandburg, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 2, Charbel Moubaruk defeated Lucas Thrift, 6-1, 6-1.
At third singles, Justin Yochim beat Brody Alexander, 6-2, 6-4.
At first doubles, Cameron Grieshaber and Colin Troutman defeated Jack Lynds and Ben Scott, 6-0, 6-3.
At second doubles, Ty Hulick and Michael Ferraro defeated Jaxon Thrift and Owen Baldensperger, 6-0, 6-3.
“We knew what to expect going into this,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “They have four returning starters from last year’s state runner-up squad — one of them being last year’s PIAA doubles champion, and the team is of the same caliber again this year.
“After the loss Monday (to McDowell), the plan for today was to play with confidence and to compete,” said Pellegrino, “and I feel like the boys did just that. We may have gotten swept, 5-0, but they played some of their best tennis all season and kept some of the sets close. Overall, a great experience for the boys and prepped us for our matchup against Fairview this Saturday.”
The Dragons are now 7-2 overall and 3-2 in Region 2. Prep moves to 6-0 in the region.
