Warren posts tennis win at Grove City

GROVE CITY — Warren’s boys tennis team is 9-2 overall after a 4-1 nonregion win over Grove City on Tuesday.

“Grove City (5-5) has a strong team and this was a great match to kick off the week and get us prepared for our region matchup with Erie High (away on Wednesday),” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino.

At first singles, Warren’s Adam Strandburg defeated Landen Mercer, 6-2, 6-3; at second singles, Ashton Morrow defeated Warren’s Lucas Thrift, 6-2, 6-3; and at third singles, Warren’s Brody Alexander defeated Jack Crescini, 6-0, 7-5.

At first doubles, Warren’s Jack Lynds and Finn Ordiway defeated Brady Connelly and Chris Donnelly, 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2; and at second doubles, Warren’s Jaxon Thrift and Collin Ellis defeated Wyatt Mincer and Morgan Bubenheim, 6-1, 6-0.

Warren’s Gabe Dougherty, Grady Corey, Bill Bennett, Owen Baldensperger, and Karson McCollough were winners in junior varsity play.

“The winner of (the Erie High) match will earn a spot in the AAA D10 final against McDowell,” said Pellegrino, whose Dragons are 9-2 overall and 4-2 in Region 2.
