The Stonehill Chocolates Cocoa Bombs and Cable Excavating Bulldogs were the first teams out for the Warren Youth Climbing League this Monday.
Cocoa Bombs’ Andrew Miller and Connor Spear really stepped up their game this week. Both improved their 3-Boulder Averages (3BA) by over 6%, which is more than any other climbers in the league. Plus, team leader Riley Littlefield’s 35.3 had the highest 3BA for the Division B climbers this week.
Not to be outmatched, the Bulldogs had four climbers with a 30+ 3BA: Finley LaVigne (35), Bella Smith (32.3), Silas Hecei (30.3) and Sebastian Cable (30.3).
Cable Excavating came out strong and led early. The Stonehill Chocolates rose to the occasion. They fought hard, and were making up ground late in the final period. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs’ lead was too big and the Cocoa Bombs were not able to catch the Cable Excavating climbers. The final score was Stonehill Chocolates (615) and Cable Excavating (655).
The Division A matchup saw the Kinzua Vet Clinic Bulls face off against the Constable & Sons Cougars.
The Bulls came out climbing hard in the first half with strong performances by Owen Ash and Coleman Miller.
The Cougars seemed to struggle to get points on the board early on, and well into the second half they were lagging behind the Kinzua Vet Clinic climbers. Finally, behind the climbing of brother and sister duo Grant and Elodie Criswell, the Cougars were able to not only catch, but bump past the Bulls. And with less than five minutes remaining they led by 6 points. With opportunities dwindling, Owen Ash captured the Low Zone on Boulder 14 and Marshall Harrington fought hard to secure a top on Boulder 10 to bring Kinzua Vet Clinic to a mere 2-point deficit. However, Grant Criswell quickly responded by capturing the Low Zone on Boulder 14, extending the Cougar’s lead to 6 points and securing the win. The final score was Constable & Sons 560, Kinzua Vet Clinic 555.
